How to stop unwanted freebies from turning up or people ringing you.

Sometimes applying for freebies can trigger you getting onto mailing lists and getting stuff you didn't want to get.

Try to read the information carefully when filling in forms which offer tick boxes to get out or sign up to other mail. They're sometimes written in ways which can confuse.

We've listed some sites which can help you get off mailing and phone lists.

Baby Preference Service - get your name off mailing lists

Fax Preference service - getting unwanted faxes?

Telephone Preference Service - getting unwanted phone calls - this includes the Silent Callgard Service

Corporate Telephone Preference Service

Royal Mail door to door scheme - To opt out, send a letter to:-

Royal Mail Door to Door Opt-out
Kingsmead House
Oxpens Road
Oxford OX1 1PX

or telephone: 08457 950950

you can also try sending e-mail to: optout@royalmail.co.uk but some people have reported that they reply and insist on a letter being written.

Your letter must include your name and postal address (including postcode) and should inform Royal Mail that you wish to opt out of the Royal Mail door to door scheme and should instruct Royal mail to take the appropriate action to make this happen.
